ITI announces winner of Best Translation Company Award for 2009
The Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) has announced the winner of the ITI Award for Best Translation Company 2009 from amongst some of the finest translation companies in Europe, as Wessex Translations Limited.
A corporate member of ITI, Wessex Translations provides professional language solutions to a wide range of public and private sector organisations including UK government departments, the European Parliament and United Nations, as well as numerous international and multinational companies.
Voted for by the wider ITI membership, Wessex Translations was chosen from among the Institute’s 62 corporate members who supply translation and interpreting services, as listed in the Corporate Section of the Directory of Members on ITI’s website at www.iti.org.uk.
Voting ITI members ranked their chosen company by completing an online questionnaire and answering a series of probing questions including how just and ethical the company is and whether the company is a pleasure to work with.
The Award Ceremony took place at the recent 2009 ITI International Conference ‘Sustainability in Translation’, which attracted speakers from Friends of the Earth, the Forest Stewardship Council and the European Commission.
ITI promotes the highest standards in the translation and interpreting profession with over 3,000 members who must adhere to a strict code of conduct. To make it easy to identify professionals, ITI provides free access to its Directory of Members via the website. Failure to use a professional can have disastrous consequences.
ITI general secretary Alan Wheatley comments: “The translation and interpreting industry makes an invaluable contribution to society and is estimated to be worth over £400 million a year in the UK. Many people mistakenly believe that even a basic knowledge of a foreign language is sufficient to enable someone to work as a translator or interpreter. Companies such as Wessex Translations and indeed other ITI corporate members appreciate the necessity of using qualified, professional translators and interpreters who are the key to ensuring that consistent quality is maintained and the original message is not lost in translation.”
Jonathan Nater of Wessex Translations Ltd, who received the Award on behalf of the company, adds: “We are delighted to receive the Award and it means a lot to us, not least because we were selected by ITI members from amongst some fantastic companies. It is a prestigious Award indeed and we are very proud and pleased to know that our translators and interpreters appreciate us in this way.”
Alan Wheatley concludes: “This is a great accolade for Wessex Translations Ltd – to be selected by ITI members as the Best Translation Company from amongst some of the finest translation companies in Europe. The Award is testimony of Wessex’s commitment to the industry and its partners. This Award is about much more than financial success. It is about the vital relationships a company has with its suppliers and it is about reputation. The survey is evidence that Wessex’s relationship with freelance translators and interpreters is an excellent example of a company getting it right. The Award is well deserved.”
